Avatar: Two Brothers
Chapter -4
Fall of a Sister
“Impossible…” Sonoor uttered with her dying breath. She could barely move as she fell to the ground lying on her back. In her final moments, she began sharing with her enemy about her past. Seeing as she was no longer a threat, Isabelle stood by and listened.
It all began in a town similar to that of Zuan Shi in the outskirts of the fire nation. A family of three was expecting their fourth member that day. With the little girl in her mother’s arms, the older sibling rushed up towards her younger sister to welcome her into this world. She was extremely happy to finally have someone else in the house to play with but before her imagination ran wild her father spoke to her.
“Sonoor, this is your sister Ruvnia. It is going to be your responsibility to protect her and make sure no harm ever comes to her. Do you understand?” Sonoor nodded in excitement and through their years growing up, Sonoor kept her word, making sure no one ever hurt her younger sister.
Life went well until one day the village was attacked by the bandits that set everything ablaze. Although many villagers didn’t make it, Sonoor managed to grab her little sister and they escaped into the Spirit Wilds.
Over time their bodies slowly changed and adapted to the hostile environment. But even with their adaptation and all of Sonoor’s efforts, they were nearing their wit’s ends. They came very close, until a human traveler noticed the two girls in their condition. Instead of being repulsed by their appearance, the man let out his hand and offered to help them. That man was none other than Laghmia.
He gave them food and shelter, but more importantly, he gave them something the two sisters haven’t gotten in a while, security. From that day on, the sisters became loyal to the man that had saved them. He trained them, took care of them, and in return the sister joined him to fight aside any human who opposed his goals.
After hearing the story, Isabelle was finally able to ask her question. “Is that really how it all happened?”
Sonoor paused for a moment before answering. “No, but that’s the story that I have told my sister my entire life. Now I’m afraid she will never know the truth.”
Isabelle was extremely exhausted from all the energy she expended but she gathered everything she had on reserve and began to grab Sonoor and put one of her wings over her neck to help her stand.
“Hey, what do you think you are doing? Can’t you just leave me in peace in my final moments?” Sonoor barked.
“Think you can hold on for a bit longer?” Isabelle asked.
“Why in the world would I do that?” Questioned Sonoor.
“I’m going to help you see your sister. You can tell her the truth before you leave this place with a bunch of regrets!”
Sonoor was left speechless for a moment. She didn’t expect to receive such kindness from her enemy. “I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything, just start walking before I change my mind!”
And together they both made their way to reconnect with their party. Sonoor with Ruvnia, and Isabelle with Chloe and Dilraj. After their first few steps together, Sonoor finally mustered up the courage to say, “Thank you.”
