Avatar: Two Brothers
Chapter 0
Epilogue
Months after the defeat of Laghima, much has changed in the world. The leaders of the Fire Nation, Water Tribe, Air Nomads, and Earth Kingdom gathered at Ba Sing Se at a council meeting held by the Earth King, Zaid. He made sure to have the best food for everyone there and of course, Manveer the Cabbage Cart man was invited.
Also at the meeting were Da-Wei, Chloe, Dilraj, Isabelle, Ruthar, and Risensa. Da-Wei and Ruthar were there to make the case that the leader behind the Air Nomad revolution had been dealt with and that all the Air Nomads would return to their old lifestyle. Chloe, Dilraj, Isabelle, Risensa were there to support their notion.
However, the majority of the members on the council could not unsee the damage done by the air benders. The destruction that Laghima brought left scars that lasted long after his passing. The council members demanded that the air benders were to be imprisoned as they feared the potential of their power.
Da-Wei and Ruthar were about to be arrested as the council members commanded the soldiers to seize them. Chloe, Dilraj, Isabelle, and Risensa were ready to jump to their defense. The entire council room would have broken into a complete riot but thankfully, an unlikely ally appeared, General Gursehaj.
The council members were thrown aback as the General who was once so opposed to the airbenders was now suggesting a compromise for them. Instead of throwing all the air benders into prison, he suggested that the air benders would be allowed to return to their air temples. However, to ensure everyone’s safety, the Air Nomads would be scattered through the different temples and their proximity would be monitored for suspicious activity.
And it came to be, that no one could enter or leave the air temples without a sky bison. One, to protect their safety from invaders, and two, a sky bison would be easy to spot. This way, the air benders could still live their regular way of life within their air temple walls. The council wasn’t entirely happy but they also didn’t want a violent result. They agreed to allow the air benders to return to their old way of life, under these conditions.
Chloe, Isabelle, Dilraj, and Risensa were extremely dissatisfied and wanted to fight for Da-Wei and Ruthar’s freedom but both the air benders accepted the terms. They thanked their comrades for all they had done and for the moment had to go their separate ways.
Months had passed since the council meeting at Ba Sing Se. Dilraj returned to the water tribe to become chieftain and lead his people in rebuilding after all that happened. Risensa returned as the Fire Lord with Isabelle serving as one of her elite generals. The Avatar was also in good hands and continued to be taken care of until it was time to protect the world and restore order to it.
As for the airbenders, life returned to normal within the temples. Most of them had forgotten and adapted to their life but not Da-Wei. For him, he still remembered all the journeys he went on with his friends beyond the air temple. Many memories began to rush through his head, especially ones with his long childhood friend, Chloe.
He was about to head out of his room to meet his parents, when a messenger hawk appeared with a note strapped to its leg. He took the note, unraveled it and began to read its content. The moment he read the words on the paper, his body felt an unsettling shock. “I have information on the whereabouts of your brother. Meet me outside the air temple if you wish to find out more.”
Many thoughts went through Da-Wei’s mind. He had to consider that this could be a trap to lure him out but the possibility of finding clues about his brother was too enticing. He put the message into his pocket and he went through his day without telling anyone about the letter.
Later on that night, Da-Wei attempted to sneak out of the temple. He was nearly successful in evading everyone’s attention except for one person, Ruthar. Knowing he couldn’t hide anything from his master, Da-Wei told Ruthar everything. Ruthar had a serious face as he walked up to Da-Wei and then suddenly, his expression changed into a smile as he held out some supplies for him. “You will need these on your journey.”
Da-wei was surprised, he was certain that Ruthar would try to stop him but Ruthar knew that it was pointless. Ruthar led Da-Wei to his sky bison, Mikayla, and it was here that they said their goodbyes before they parted ways. Da-Wei hopped onto the bison and she quietly flew him outside of the air temple and onto the land that he hadn’t set foot on in awhile.
Da-Wei looked around the area but it was difficult to see anyone during the night. He progressed further but as he did, a bright light flashed at his eyes. It was a fire bender using the fire on his hand as a light and he was not alone, as a band of earth soldiers appeared and had Da-Wei surrounded.
“Air bender, you are under arrest for suspicious actions. Do not resist and make this easy on yourself.” The captain of the guard spoke. Da-Wei felt so foolish for falling for such a trap, he knew the message was too good to be true.
The earth soldiers tied up his hands then suddenly, someone blew out the firebender’s light source and everything went dark. Da-Wei couldn’t see, all he could hear were fighting noises in the background. When it was all over, Da-Wei saw someone light a torch and hold it up to their face. He couldn’t believe the person that was standing before him, Chloe.
They were both excited to see each other again after all this time, but Da-Wei was curious as to why Chloe was here. That was when someone else appeared out of the dark, Rice. Da-Wei was initially confused but then he put all the pieces together and realized that Rice was the one who sent the message.
“That is correct, I sent that message to both of you. I know where both your brothers are.” Chloe and Da-Wei were all ears. “However, the journey ahead will be a dangerous one. Knowing this, will you two continue?” Chloe and Da-Wei were not afraid of danger and without saying a word to each other they knew what their answer would be.
As Chloe and Da-Wei told Rice their decision, he walked over to the sky bison and told her to return to Ruthar. The creature got up and returned back into the air temple. “Don’t worry, where we are going, we won’t need a sky bison. Now let’s go find your two brothers.”
