Avatar: Two Brothers
Chapter 19
For the Avatar
Shortly after their battle against the dark spirit, the sun was beginning to rise. Isabelle walked towards Da-Wei who held the avatar in his hands. Once she was near Da-Wei she smacked him as hard as she could right on his shoulder.
“Hey! What was that for?!”
“That was absolutely crazy and reckless of you, putting the avatar in danger like that!”
“Calm down, I had it all under control, everything went according to plan.” Isabelle gave a very unconvinced look. “Sort of… What are you so angry about anyways, everything worked out. The avatar is unharm, the dark spirit is gone, and we are both alive!”
Realizing Da-Wei had a point, she cooled down a bit. “You are right. Thank you for saving me. How did you know the baby could help us?”
“Cause I got big brains.” He spoke with confidence as he pointed to his head. Isabelle just waited for a better answer. “Sigh, I learned about it from training with Master Ruthar. He mentioned the avatar is able to communicate and deal with spirits. Plus, if the avatar was ever in danger, it would activate their avatar state.”
“Wow, it seems like you learned a lot from Ruthar. Guess you really are useful after all!”
“Hey! What is that supposed to mean?” Da-Wei questioned her.
Isabelle couldn’t contain her laughter but moments after, she grabbed her forehead, as she was experiencing some pain. Da-Wei just remembered that Isabelle hasn’t slept all night and was most likely experiencing some headaches and fatigue.
“You should get some rest now. We will fly out in a couple hours.”
“I’m fine, don't worry about me. Let’s go.”
Da-Wei was reluctant to proceed but Isabelle insisted. “We can’t waste anymore time, the sooner we get the poison out of Chloe’s body the better.” Ignoring his judgment, he complied with Isabelle’s idea. They walked back to where Mikayla was and prepared to depart.
Once they had both the avatar and Chloe secured on Mikayla’s back, they did a final check to make sure they had everything. Da-Wei asked Isabelle if she was ready to go and she confirmed with a nod. The only thing left to do was wake up Mikayla, who was still sleeping.
As Da-Wei was about to wake Mikayla up, he felt a disturbance in the wind. “Look out!” He reacted immediately by using his airbending to blow Isabelle away. Because of Da-Wei, Isabelle was saved from an incoming boulder that was hurled at her previous location.
The impact of the boulder woke Mikayla up but as she was about to move, the ground beneath her turned all mushy and her legs began to sink in. When half her body was submerged into the ground, it suddenly hardened back like concrete. Mikayla was completely immobilized.
Da-Wei wanted to help Mikayla but suddenly a person appeared in an Earth Kingdom battle uniform and he stood near Isabelle who was still extremely tired. Seeing her in danger, Da-Wei dashed towards her but midway, he was blocked off by another man with the same outfit, only this person was much taller.
The man performed a motion with his hands and hit the ground with both his palms. Seconds later, the ground beneath Da-Wei began to shift and rocks sprung up from the ground. Once it was all over, Da-Wei found himself trapped in a dome made of stone. However, he was not alone, as on the other side of the dome was the tall earth bender who created this trap.
Da-Wei tried to break out of the barrier but it was no use, none of his attacks had any effect. He turned to his opponent and demanded to know who he was and what he wanted.
The earth bender introduced himself as Arsh, one of General Gursehaj’s elite guards. He was given the order to claim back the avatar from Ruthar’s accomplices. “You should surrender yourself now, resistance is futile.” He added.
“Accomplice? What do you mean?” Da-Wei asked. Arsh explained how Ruthar had been arrested and accused of murder against one of the Earth generals. Upon hearing the false accusation Da-Wei tried to defend his master’s innocence.
Arsh ignored Da-Wei’s plea and prepared himself for battle. “Prepare to face the strength of a high-caliber earth bender!” Having talked enough, they both engaged in battle at the center of the dome.
Meanwhile, outside of the rock arena, Isabelle was faced against the other elite guard. This one was not as tall as Arsh but Isabelle knew appearances were deceiving. This earth bender was named Gurshaan and he began to walk towards Isabelle.
Despite her current condition, Isabelle stood up with both her fists that she could barely hold up. Her struggle was obvious so Gurshaan gave her a chance. “My orders were to take back the avatar. If you give in without a fight, I won’t have to use unnecessary violence.”
Isabelle refused to take the easy way out. She was charging up to blast a fire stream at her opponent but before she could do so, Gurshaan quickly stomped the ground to knock Isabelle off balance. He then sunk Isabelle to the ground, until only her head was above ground level.
With Isabelle trapped, Gurshaan had absolutely no resistance on his way to claim back the avatar, lying on Mikayla’s back. Both Mikayla and Isabelle struggled but they couldn’t break free. Gurshaan reached his hand out to grab the avatar but out of nowhere a boulder came smashing into him and sent him flying away from the baby.
Gurshaan quickly got back on his feet and he found that there was another bender he had to worry about. Chloe was now standing between him and the avatar. Isabelle was extremely glad to see Chloe awake but she could tell from her eyes that the poison was still very much in effect.
Gurshaan was annoyed but he didn’t see Chloe as much of a threat. He began launching a relentless barrage of stones at his new target. Without her full strength, Chloe was forced to block using her earth wall technique. While she was defending, she placed her hand on the ground to try and free Isabelle as well. However, Gurshaan’s attacks were too much and he blew past the wall and struck Chloe in the abdomen.
Chloe tried to pick herself up but Gurshaan hit her again with an Earth column from beneath her. He was ready to land another attack but Isabelle managed to break free thanks to Chloe’s earlier efforts and she shot a fire ball, forcing him to back away from Chloe.
Seeing his other opponent return, Gurshaan slammed the ground with his fist, creating a rock wave that collided against Isabelle. Then he threw a giant stone right above Isabelle to prevent her from getting up again. Chloe attempted to get up but the poison prevented her from doing so.
This time, Gurshaan was certain that both Chloe and Isabelle were done. They were at their limit and there was no resistance to stop him. Again, he made his way to the avatar but before he got close, someone else appeared before him.
“Who are you?” Gurshaan asked. Isabelle and Chloe both turned their attention to the person who had just joined the fray. It was someone that made Chloe extremely worried and gave Isabelle bad vibes when she said her name. “Ruvnia, please to meet you earth bender.”
