Attrition

While Da-Wei, Dilraj, Isabelle and Chloe were caught up in their adventures, the problems of the world continued to escalate. With the leaders of the world spread thin, Laghima’s highly trained warriors were able to intercept food supplies going towards the water tribes, fire nation, and the earth kingdom.

Day by day, General Gursehaj saw his allies and his own forces slowly declining. It seemed Laghima knew exactly when and where to strike, while the rest of the world was completely blind to Laghima’s whereabouts. If things kept going the way they were, Laghima would eventually obtain what he wanted.

Gursehaj walked into the large meeting room where he was the last person expected. The eyes of all the leaders were on him as he was about to give his speech.

“Leaders of fire nation, water tribe, and earth kingdom. I know we are going through some dire times right now but it is important at times like this that we stand together. If we split off or begin fighting against one another, we will fall right into our enemy’s hands.”

“Excuse me, general.” One of the leaders from the fire nation spoke up. “My people are starving because those air benders are running loose! You said that these air benders would only be a minor concern, however, they are clearly causing a great deal of problems!”

“A minor setback I assure you. I have a plan that will bring victory back into our hands.” Gursehaj was about to reveal his plan but the new chieftain of the Northern water tribe, Varmevek, jumped in.

“This better not be another idea to reclaim the avatar! We have been searching for months and made no progress. What we need is to take action against those who are causing harm to our people. I say we launch a full scale attack against Laghima and his lackeys!”

The general could feel that he was losing control of the room, he needed to act quickly to regain control. “That would be highly ill-advised. First, we have no leads to where Laghima is residing. Second, blindly battling against a foe such as Laghima would lead to undesirable outcomes. I’m sure I don’t need to remind you of what happened to your former chieftain.

After hearing those words, Varmevek sprung up from his seat. Filled with hostile intent, he told Gursehaj to take back his words but he remained silent. The atmosphere was beginning to get tense as a fight within the council room seemed imminent but Gurshaan entered the room and bowed in front of his general.

“Gurshaan, you are interrupting an important discussion right now.”

“My apologies general but I have news that is of the utmost importance.”

“What do you have to report?” Gursehaj inquired.

“We have located the avatar.”

“Excellent work, prepare our forces.” After receiving the command, Gurshaan left the room. Gursehaj then turned back to face the leaders and asked for their assistance in reclaiming the avatar. He assured them that once the avatar was back in their possession, Laghima would be easily defeated.

There were differing opinions throughout the room but the majority of the leaders agreed with Laghima’s plan. Varmevek was extremely adverse to the decision but he had his hands tied. With the water tribe isolated from everyone else, they were hit hardest by the supply disruption. The little ration they received was from Gursehaj’s forces and to defy him would put all his people at risk, so he had no choice but to obey. With a massive force behind him, Gursehaj set out to the fire nation where the avatar was reported to be seen.
