Avatar: Two Brothers
Chapter 7
Snap Out
After getting kicked out, Da-Wei left the temple and was sitting alone at a lake just outside the town. As he mulled over his past few moments while throwing pebbles into the water. Chloe, who was nearby, tip-toed towards Da-Wei hoping to surprise him.
Right as she was about to smack him in the head again, without even turning around Da-Wei spoke, “Chloe, not today.” She stumbled in midair and fell on her stomach.
“Aww come on! Ruining all my fun!” She pouted in disappointment. But there was no reaction from Da-Wei like there normally should have been. She realized whatever was bothering him was more serious than she anticipated.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Don’t give me that! You always do this when something is wrong!”
“It's Master Ruthar. He’s going on a dangerous mission.”
“To where?”
“I don’t know he wouldn’t tell me.”
“Then how do you know it's dangerous?”
“I just have a bad feeling, okay! I want to help Master Ruthar but he wouldn’t let me! Is that good enough for you!”
After the words left his mouth, Da-Wei finally realized how loud and harsh his voice was. “I’m sorry, Chloe. It’s just, I thought he trusted me after training me all these years. I guess I was wrong.”
As he continued to lament, Chloe suddenly used her Earthbending to hurl rocks towards her friend. Da-Wei was late to react, able to dodge the first couple of rocks but getting hit in the face by the other.
“Chloe what do you think you are doing?” She continued throwing stones at him as he tried to repel them all away. Chloe waited for the opportune time and then she lunged forward and punched Da-Wei right in the gut.
The air bender clutched his stomach in pain. “Stop feeling sorry for yourself! The Da-Wei I know wouldn’t just take ‘no’ for an answer! Get off your sorry bum or else I’ll make you!”
Da-Wei was on one knee but Chloe’s words had finally reached him. His eyes widened and using his hands he created an air cocoon around him that dispersed all the muddy material that came his way. He had snapped out of his victim state.
Chloe let go of her fighting stance as she had accomplished what she set out to do. “There we go. If that didn’t snap you out of it then I was going to hit you real hard.”
Da-Wei laughed as he knew she wasn’t kidding. “Thanks Chloe, I know what I must do.” He began to run back towards the temple.
“Wait Da-Wei, can I join?” Chloe asked but Da-Wei never heard her as he already dashed off back to Ruthar’s quarters.
