The Invasion

So began the next day of class, where the students were listening to teacher Justine give her lesson. Normally, Armaan would be completely focused and actively participating in class but today was an odd day for him. He was still processing what happened last night and thinking about how he was going to leave campus without encountering Reevmrak and Aynat. As he was wondering in his thoughts, a loud sound began to blast throughout the entire academy.

“Warning, Diamond Academy is now in complete lockdown! This is not a drill! I repeat, this is not a drill!” The voice on the intercom urgently announced. Justine, who was also caught by surprise immediately called her class to take cover under the desk. As all the students were hunkering down under their desk, Justine securely locked all the doors and covered the windows before taking cover as well.

Outside of the academy and beyond the gate, the pokemon were mounting an assault against the city once again. The soldiers quickly readied their weapons in hopes to prevent the pokemon from setting foot into the city. They positioned themselves along the top of the wall to see what they were up against. The first waves incoming were a mass of Ariados, a spider pokemon, that were scaling up the wall. The soldiers reacted quickly by dropping down large boulders to squish the spider pokemon back to the ground. It was working for a little while until an air squadron of Golbats took to the skies and began using their supersonic screech to prevent the soldier’s on the wall from throwing any more rocks. The human forces replied with ballistas firing a volley of arrows to take down some of the Golbats.

It looked as if the military had control of the situation until a battalion of Rhydons emerge running full speed against the walls. They were tough enough to absorb a ballistic attack and if they were ever to reach the wall, they could drill it down with a horn above their mouth.

However, the humans were expecting a heavy ground force from the pokemon and were prepared with lots of water. Rhydons are super susceptible to water and when they were within range, the troops began dropping barrels of water that splashed onto the Rhydon causing them immense discomfort. Unfortunately the Rhydon were just a distraction as the true threat emerged and came storming in with a loud roar. It was the mighty 10 foot tall Tyranitar who’s mere presence stirred up a sandstorm. The sandstorm raged violently, reducing the soldier’s vision and preventing them from moving at their normal pace. They fired all the ballistas they could at the Tyranitar but couldn’t cease its movements. As it got closer , a bunch of orbs began rolling out from behind the Tyranitar towards the gates. The militia were unable to see what was going on because of the storm. The mysterious orbs were actually a pokemon known as Electrode and as it approached the gate, it used its most deadly attack: self-destruct!

The pokemon had bursted through the gate and were now invading the city. People were running and screaming doing all they could to escape. Ariados used their string shot to prevent people from fleeing. Golbats continued to swoop in the air with their obnoxious screech. And the Rhydons were causing the bulk of the destruction. Many homes and businesses were being destroyed and the pokemon were making their way towards Diamond Academy.

The intercom came up again: “Code Red! Pokemon have breached the wall and are within the city! Everyone must evacuate immediately! This is not a drill! I repeat This is not…” The intercom abruptly cut off which was not a good sign. Justine immediately popped out of her desk, unlocked the emergency exit door and told everyone to quickly but one at a time to leave through the door. With all the panic in the atmosphere, most of the students were in reactive mode and bolted for the door. Armaan was not part of the reactive crowd but he was feeling a lot of anxiety at the moment. He was trying to collect his thoughts and figure a solution out. As he was pondering, he looked out the window and could see a Rhydon coming towards them with maximum speed. “EVERYONE TAKE COVER!” he warned everyone. All the students and Justine rushed back to find cover and they braced themselves from a massive charge from a high velocity Rhydon. The classroom was now in shambles and some of the students were hurt from the impact. There was now a huge opening in the classroom that allowed everyone to scatter and flee. The only one left was Armaan and as he was about to leave the scene he noticed that there was still one person who was caught in the rubble, Jovan Junior.

Armaan swiftly moved towards Jovan and began to remove the debris that was covering him. Jovan was still conscious but he was unable to budge out. Not too far from them, a pile of rubble began to fall down and out of it emerged the Rhydon that had crashed into their classroom. Armaan and Jovan doubled their efforts to get rid of the junk as quick as they could. In their haste, they created enough noise to attract the pokemon’s attention. Luckily by the time the Rhydon noticed, Armaan was able to break Jovan free so they were able to get a head start on the beast. However, there was still one problem, Jovan was still lagging behind. Armaan knew they couldn’t out run the beast at this point, so he told Jovan to go on ahead while he distracted Rhydon.

Armaan caught the beast’s attention and led him down a different path from Jovan. Armaan wasn’t the fastest runner but he read enough about pokemon to know most of their weaknesses and so he had a plan. He ran as fast as he could to keep enough distance from him and the Rhydon but the pokemon was closing in fast. Once Armaan turned the final corner he had found what he needed and turned around to face the charging threat. The Rhydon came rushing at Armaan and right when the timing was right, Armaan rolled off to the side forcing the Rhydon to slam into a fire hydrant. The hydrant burst a gush of water against the Rhydon causing it great agony and it scampered away from the area.

At the moment, Armaan was feeling quite proud of himself but he suddenly realized that Froakie could be in danger. Without delay he headed straight for their secret hideout. Surprisingly, there weren’t many pokemon blocking his way but he had the eerie feeling as he inched closer to the destination. After turning the corner, he was now near the entrance of the abandoned hut but he was greeted at the entrance by an Ariados. Armaan grabbed a pebble nearby and threw it at the arachnid, but it sidestepped the projectile and spat a web in retaliation. Despite his best effort to evade the attack Armaan was now entangled in the spider’s web unable to move. The Ariados readied its stinger to strike but as it was charging toward it’s target, Froakie appeared from the side and tackled the Ariados on its left side knocking it off balance. “Froakie! You are ok!” Armaan said in excitement and Froakie acknowledged with a smile. Armaan knew he wouldn’t be of much help in terms of fighting but he read enough knowledge from the pokemon books to give commands to Froakie.

Channeling his ability to recall all he read and filled with enthusiasm for his first pokemon battle, Armaan told Froakie to use water shuriken on its opponent. Froakie who looked super psyched up to battle a second ago was now filled with confusion as it stared at its trainer. “Oh right, you probably haven’t learned that move yet.” Armaan now realizes that was only a move that Froakie’s evolution could use. The Ariados sprang up into the air in order to descend for a full force tackle. In response, Froakie sidestepped the first attack. Undeterred, the spider sprayed a volley of ‘poison stings’ in its direction. Armaan now thinking more clearly told Froakie to use its ‘bubble’ attack to counter. The two attacks met and cancelled each other out. Immediately Armaan told Froakie to use its ‘quick attack’ to get in close and catch the bug off guard. It was a directed hit pushing the eight legged creature back. The small victory gave Armaan a reason to do a mini celebration but he knew he had to stay focused. He noticed Froakie’s speed was a huge advantage so he called Froakie to quickly reengage and end the battle. Unfortunately, a flock of Golbats flew in from above and began to use its ‘supersonic’ attack, halting Froakie’s advance and forcing it to stay still to cover its ears. That allowed the Ariados to regain its strength and respond back with a ‘poison sting’ right at Froakie.

Froakie was now on the floor and worse, it had been poisoned by the spider’s sting. Armaan was still stuck in the web and unable to help. All he could do was watch as his companion was surrounded by an Ariados and a group of Golbats hovering above it. The situation looked dire but before the wild pokemon could strike again, a bunch of pellets rolled beneath the Ariados’s legs and exploded causing a huge smokescreen. The Golbats attempted to clear away the smog with their wings but out of the smoke, a hook wire grappled around all of them, entangling them together slamming them down onto the ground.

As the smoke cleared, Armaan saw that it was only the Ariados left and it was up against two humans who were both in a battlesuit of some kind. Their suits were armored but not too heavily plated that it allowed them to maneuver at high speed. The Ariados spat it’s web at the one of the duos but it was easily dodged. They both ran side by side almost in perfect sync with full speed at the monster. The Ariados tried to disrupt their attack but to no avail. One of them slid underneath the spider to get to it’s other side while his partner passed a chain to her. They then circled around the critter, tying its legs together and immobilizing it completely.

Armaan was in absolute shock and awe with what he had just witnessed. He was about to let out an excited cry but out of nowhere a Rhydon appeared into the fray. It stomped the ground and charged straight at the duo. They confidently looked at each other and nodded. One of them stepped forward signaling that it was going to take the Rhydon head on by himself. He opened up his palm and Armaan could see that he had an electrical gauntlet. Armaan was filled with anxiety for the fighter, from what he read electric attacks had absolutely no effects on a ground type pokemon like Rhydon. He called out, “Wait, that Rhydon is a ground type! It’s ...” Before he was able to finish his sentence, the brawler hopped over the charging Rhydon and shocked the mighty beast with his electrical gauntlet right on it’s horn. Rhydon stopped and fainted on the floor in just one strike.

Once again, Armaan was left completely speechless as to how the two fighters completely handled the situation with ease. It had him thinking that the invasion could be pushed back until he heard a terrifying roar from afar. It was the gigantic Tyranitar calling all attention towards it. The behemoth noticed Armaan and the two mysterious fighters along with its fallen comrades near them. It let out a massive hyper beam from its mouth with little warning. The two brawlers knew it was coming but Armaan was still stuck and tangled in the sticky web. Struggling with all his might he was unable to break free and thought for a moment that this might be how it all ends. Luckily one of the fighters jumped in front of him and quickly ripped the webs off . She then pushes him out of the way, barely escaping herself from the full blast of the hyper beam.

Out of the aftermath, much havoc in the area was created and most of the pokemon got caught in the crossfire. The mighty beast began to approach the area it had just decimated with its mighty attack. It looked down at Armaan with its dreadful glare and instantly Armaan was paralyzed with fear. This pokemon felt completely different from the other ones they had encountered but he couldn’t pinpoint why. After instilling fear into the trainer, the beast let out a rallying roar to all the pokemon. All the other pokemon halted their assault and began to retreat out of the city and made their way back into the forest. Before leaving the city, the Tyranitar smashed the wall once more, further damaging the city’s defenses. Almost as if it was sending them a message that the city was no longer safe.

Once all the pokemon had left, the fighter that had rescued Armaan fell to one knee and grabbed her left rib. Quickly her partner came to her aid. He removed the helmet of the injured brawler and to Armaan’s surprise he recognized the face and the person was a girl in his class named Chloe. That could only mean that the other person with the mask still on was Da-wei. Realizing their identity had been revealed Da-wei flipped up his visor to get some fresh air. Filled with excitement about knowing who the two awesome fighters were, he began telling Da-wei and Chloe how amazing they were in battle. Unfortunately Da-wei didn’t share the same enthusiasm as Chloe was hurt and he was mad at Armaan’s incompetence in getting stuck in the spider trap. Chloe was in too much pain to respond.

“There you guys are! I have been looking all over for the three of you!” said a familiar voice. It was Justine, their teacher from Diamond Academy. “Everyone this is an emergency evacuation and you all need to come with me right now.” She commanded. Without question all three of them followed her orders. “Oh you might want to bring your injured companion over there as well.” Armaan quickly rushed to his poisoned pokemon. As he picked up Froakie in his arms, he had the sudden realization that Justine spoke very nonchalantly about the pokemon. Most people would freak out by the pokemon but there was no time to think. Justine carried Chloe with her arms and led the two boys into her vehicle.
