The Healer

As Maggie was steering the ship, Reina ran up to show her gratitude, “You waited for us to come back? What made you do that?” Without looking away, she pointed to Jiyah who was still recovering from the fall. “Your friend over there helped repair my ship under some crazy weather conditions. Thought I would return the favour.” Reina bowed to thank Maggie and quickly returned to see how Jiyah was doing.

Jiyah slowly sat up and shook off all the ill effects of the fall. Everyone was relieved to discover that she was alright. Their attention then turned to Jasmine whose wounds had not healed from the attack of the dread knights. “We need to quickly find a doctor on the ship. Maybe we can get Sediya to help us again.” Nadya said with urgency. As she was about to run to find her, Jawad spoke, “There is no need to bother the villagers, we have a healer right here.” His words were directed at Reina who stood looking nervous.

Jiyah: Wait how do you know Reina is a healer? Wasn’t Amisha the one who healed you back when you were fighting Cole and Kabir?

Jawad: Amisha is quite cunning. She used the ingredients and materials in my home to deceive the mages. Little mix of those chemicals created a radiant glow that seems very similar to a healing spell.

Nadya: Wow, she thought that far ahead and risked her life to save us?

Jawad: Yes she did. And the person who healed me was actually Reina.

Jiyah: But when did she do that? I don’t remember seeing her…

Jawad: When Jasmine was carrying us on her hand.

Nadya and Jiyah were still very skeptical. Jawad walked over to Reina and encouraged her to use her healing powers to save Jasmine. Reina looked nervous, so she took a deep breath, before looking at both her hands and told everyone to stand back. Once everyone had backed away to allow her to concentrate, she held out her hands towards Jasmine and closed her eyes.

A bright light began to radiate from Reina’s hands and healing energy began to transfer towards Jasmine. Over a short period of time, the light began to seal up all of Jasmine's wounds. Once the light disappeared, Sediya came to check on Jasmine’s status, letting everyone know she was now stable and just needed some time to rest.

Everybody was glad to hear that Jasmine would make a speedy recovery but after what they had just witnessed, Nadya and Jiyah no longer had doubt to who Reina was. There was a bit of awkwardness that could be felt around the room. Realizing they need to talk it out, Nadya asked for everyone else to temporarily leave the room. Everyone kindly obliged and they disperse throughout the ship except for Jasmine who was resting.

Once the door was closed, they began to talk.

Nadya: So this whole time you were the princess, why did you hide that from us?

Reina: I’m sorry I was going to tell you, but I got worried.

Jiyah: Worried about what?

Reina: I got worried that you would treat me differently after finding out I was the princess.

Jiyah: What? Why would we do that?

Reina: Well, you mentioned that the princess was a spoiled brat.

Nadya: She is correct, you did say that Jiyah.

Jiyah: What? I didn’t mean it! I totally would have treated you the same!

Reina: Really?

Jiyah: No. You are right, I probably would have treated you very differently.

Nadya: Wait, so how do you know Amisha and how is all this connected?

Reina: Growing up back in the kingdom, I didn’t have too many visitors or friends because of all the high security and guards placed around me. But there was one person who was always allowed to visit me, Lady Amisha. She always shared with me about her adventures beyond the kingdom. The skies were filled with griffins and wyverns, swamps where ogres lived, highlands where the giant walked, and magical wizards throughout the land. I was always inspired by her tales and wanted her to take me with her but I was not allowed.

However, overtime, things in the kingdom grew more chaotic. After word spread that Prince Yuz Lez from the East Kingdom was captured by the forces of Dragkonis, most people knew his forces would come after the princess next. Because of that, security increased, I was pretty much locked up in my room and under constant supervision.

Jiyah: Wow, I didn’t know that there could be so little freedom being a princess.

Nadya: So what happened next?

Reina: Well, no one was allowed to visit me, but Amisha is quite the crafty person that she somehow managed to sneak into my room. I asked her about what was happening outside the kingdom and she told me the forces of Dragkonis were getting stronger while the kingdom’s soldiers were dwindling.

I was sick and tired of people fighting to protect me and I wanted to do what I could to help. This was when she told me about a wizard in the north that could help. I wanted to go find the wizard with Amisha but she initially rejected the idea. Thankfully, I was able to persuade her to change her mind and we came up with a plan for my escape.

Amisha came up with the idea for me to disguise myself as a rogue and sneak out through the balcony during the night. Amisha would then spread the word that I had been abducted. Although this caused panic amongst the kingdom, Dragkonis’s forces stopped advancing towards the West Kingdom because word got out the princess was no longer there.

However, many people began to track me down from royal guards to bounty hunters. I was chased out of the kingdom so Amisha and I weren’t able to meet up like we initially planned. But we already agreed beforehand if things got too chaotic, we would meet up at the highlands out in the North.

Jiyah: Well this does explain how you have so much gold on you all the time, being a princess and all.

Nadya: So the two guards who were after you back at the tavern. You know them?

Reina: Yes Ranak and Aaryav are royal guards for the kingdom. I’m sorry I kept all this from the both you.

There was a moment of silence as Nadya and Jiyah had to process everything they had heard. A few seconds later, Jiyah stood up and walked towards Reina. She wasn’t sure what to expect so she kept her head down afraid that Jiyah might be incredibly mad. Jiyah was now standing right infront of her and she extended out her hand with her palm open.

“Well what are you waiting for? We got a friend to save.” She exclaimed, pulling Reina to her feet. Hints of tears were welling up Reina’s eyes but she held most of them back and wiped the ones that came out. “You aren’t mad at me?” She asked. Jiyah walked forward a bit before answering, “I’m sure you did what you thought was best. Besides we all have things we rather not share.” Reina nodded and Nadya joined them as they left the room and onto the deck where everyone was gathered.
