Diamondlot
Chapter 16
Wizard and Dragon
Jawad and Leyyah had been awaiting the arrival of the three girls. Now that they were all accounted for, they began to plan their next move. Jawad shouted out loud to Maggie so she could take them to the Barren Wasteland in the South. Maggie did not appreciate being told what to do so she refused the wizard’s request. Jawad was flabbergasted, he was ready to give her a piece of his mind. Fortunately, Reina intervened between the two and asked Maggie politely while sneaking in another gold coin to her. Maggie happily listened to Reina and Jawad was in complete disbelief.
As Jawad was flailing his arms in outrage, Nadya asked him to calm down so they could get to more serious matters. She wanted to know why they needed to head to the Barren Wastelands. After regaining his composure, Jawad pulled out a book from his pocket. A book that he got from his time at the wizard academy and he opened it up for them to see. The contents within the book revealed his intention for going to the Barren Wastelands.
Over a century ago, Dragkonis invaded Diamondlot and sought to be the ruler of the entire realm. His strength and power were beyond imagination but his greatest arsenal was his strategic mind and deceitfulness. He knew in order to take over the realm he needed to eliminate the most powerful races and creatures throughout the dominion. He first deceived his own kind, getting dragons to battle against one another before finishing the weaker ones himself.
He then slowly built up his forces before overwhelming the race of giants, shattering the skies of all griffins, and obilerating the kingdom of ogres. As each race dwindled in numbers, Dragkonis grew stronger and the only creatures left in great numbers to stop him were the humans. Dragkonis had very little fear of humans as he thought they were weaklings but that proved to be his downfall.
The humans and the remaining tribes of each race banded together in order to save the world from Dragkonis’s carnage. Their final showdown took battle in the south, known as the Barren Wastelands. The battle was hard fought and Dragkonis nearly succeeded but the great wizard, along with the sacrifices of many others, snatched victory from the claws of the dragon. The wizard sealed the mighty dragon away into a different dimension using a powerful spell but it came at a price. The wizard’s body turned to stone, unable to move or speak until the curse was lifted.
Things began to become more clear to the three girls. They need to go to the Barren Wasteland to find the great wizard and free him from his prison. Only then did they stand a fighting chance against their tyrant foe.
“So how are we going to free the great wizard?” Nadya asked with skepticism. “Yeah, the prison can’t be broken by any physical force or any typical magic.” Jiyah added on. Jawad’s eyes began to brighten up when he heard that phrase, as if he had been waiting for someone to ask him this entire time. “Lucky for all of you, I have learned the spell that can break the curse!” he pauses before adding, “You are welcome!”
Nadya and Jiyah gave a confused look at the wizard, while Reina responded with a nervous laugh. Jawad continued to stand proud and told Maggie, “Continue our course to the Barren Wastelands! Double time!” Maggie gave an irritated look, “Sigh, you got it mango boy, anything to reduce the amount of time you stay on my ship.”
