Poisoned

The sun had risen and the sky was cleared. Jiyah was having her wound tended to by Reina. After cleaning the wound, she wrapped it with a bandage. Jiyah stood up to put some weight on her leg to test it out. “Hey Reina, your fighting skills leave a lot to be desired but you sure know how to perform first aid!” Jiyah announced. Reina scratched her nervously not knowing how to take the compliment.

After Jiyah’s wounds were completely patched up, Nadya was curious as to the pirate lady who had saved them. Her name was Maggie and her partner, the monkey, was named Riya. They had been traveling together for awhile and like any other pirate, their mission was to find lost hidden treasures of the world.

Still not fullying trusting the pirate, Nadya asked why Maggie was willing to help them back at the docks. “I was actually going to kick her (Reina) off my ship, but your friend seemed really desperate for help, so I decided to help you two. After she paid me of course.” Maggie explained. “Ah ha! I knew a pirate couldn’t be trusted. You are just in this for the money.” Nadya accused her. Reina overheard and quickly jumped in between them. “It's ok! All that matters is that we are all safe and …” midway through her sentence she grew weak and began to fall to the ground. Thankfully, Nadya managed to catch Reina before she made impact with the floor.

Nadya: Reina, what’s wrong?

Reina: uhhh.. My head…

Jiyah: What happened? She was fine minutes ago!

Maggie: Your friend is probably poisoned.

Nadya: What? How? When?

Maggie: When else? From back at the docks. She protected you from one of the mercenaries remember?

Jiyah: How do you know for certain she is poisoned?

Maggie: Don’t worry I know. When you are a pirate, you see many different things and endure through many kinds of sickness. She is 100% poisoned.

Jiyah: Since you seem to know so much about poison, you can help her right?

Maggie: Nope. I know when someone is poisoned. That doesn’t mean I know how or have the cure for it.

Nadya: Take us to the nearest doctor now!

Maggie: No can do.

Nadya: Why?

Maggie: We are out in the middle of the sea with no land near for quite some time.

Nadya: Listen, turn this ship around or else…

(Nadya was beginning to let her emotions get the best of her. Jiyah put her hand on her shoulders to calm her down. Nadya began to slowly breathe in and out to regain her composure.)

Jiyah: Where is this ship headed for now?

Maggie: Well your friend paid me quite the amount to take you all to the Northern Highlands so that will be our next destination.

Jiyah: And there aren’t any towns or villages on the way nearby?

Maggie: Nope! I was paid to take you all to the Northern Highlands so no other stops!

Jiyah: Fair enough. Could we at least have a place for our friend to rest.

Maggie: Take the stairs down to the lower deck and there should be some extra room down there.

So Nadya and Jiyah made their way down to the lower deck with Reina’s arm on each of their shoulders. Once they were there they managed to find a cot for Reina to rest on. They got a blanket for her and a wet towel to place over her head. They did everything in their power to keep her condition stable.

Jiyah: Well that was unexpected.

Nadya: Hm?

Jiyah: I never thought I would see you lose your cool, like ever.

Nadya: Oh that. Well, I was always taught to look after your friends. So when the pirate didn’t seem to care much for Reina’s well being I sort of lost it.

Jiyah: Well that makes sense. Guess you really see Reina as a close friend.

Nadya: She’s the closest person who is a friend since leaving my dojo.

Jiyah: Haha.

Nadya: Hey what is so funny? I’m sharing my feelings here!

Jiyah: Sorry, I was just thinking how we are supposed to be the bodyguards to Reina. And yet, she has saved us both a few times already.

Nadya: Yeah that is kind of ironic. Some bodyguards we turned out to be.

Nadya: Hey Jiyah.

Jiyah: Yes?

Nadya: Thanks for listening. You are actually a lot nicer than you put out to be.

Jiyah: I really don’t like too many people but you and Reina are alright. And for the record, you are not telling this conversation to anyone. Kapeesh?

Nadya: Deal.

After wrapping up their conversation, Nadya and Jiyah went back to checking on Reina’s status. As they got up from their seats, the boat suddenly threw them hard against one side. As they both picked themselves up, Jiyah went back to the upper deck while Nadya stayed to keep an eye on Reina.
