New Reality

The door closed as Anusha was the last to leave the room. David’s mind felt as if it was about to explode. He looked in the mirror and got a clear reflection of what he looked like. The left half of his face was still human flesh along with his eye but the right half was all mechanical with a red glowing eye. Almost the entire rest of his body had all been mechanized. He took a deep breath to accept that this was going to be his life from now on.

He began moving his arms and legs to see how they functioned. They felt weird as he wasn’t used to how they reacted compared to human limbs. He was swinging his body out of control and slammed himself against some of the lab equipment, leaving a huge dent on it. He knew Anusha wouldn’t be too happy about that. He then accidently activated a function of his body that caused a familiar voice to speak in his head.

????: David? David! David!

David: Siri? Is that you? I can hear you all of a sudden.

Siri: I have been trying to get your attention for the longest time! You completely ignored me!

David: Hey I’m sorry, I don’t exactly know how this body works. Give me a break!

Siri: So it’s true then? My body is gone and I’m now just an artificial intelligence?

David: You heard all that?

Siri: Yeah. I’m not sure how it works exactly but I can hear everything you perceive.

David: Wait… what else can you do…?

Siri: Well now that I’m an A.I. installed within your system I can read your every thought and have access to all your memories. Oh and all of your deepest darkest secrets that you never told anyone about!

David: You can do what?!?!?

Siri: I’m just kidding! I can’t read your thoughts or access any of your secrets. But I can feel most of the emotions you perceive.

David: Let’s find out what else you can do?

Siri: Do I have your permission to try anything even though it might hurt you?

David: I would prefer less pain but do what you must…

So Siri began testing out her A.I. function. There were many instances where David’s mechanical body would short-circuit or overheat for a moment but most of it was contained. There was also a part where David might have caught on fire for a good ten seconds and he had to grab a fire extinguisher and put himself out.

David: You are having way too much fun with this…

Siri: Maybe…

David: Are we done yet?

Siri: Wait, let's try one more thing, I promise! Last one!

David: Sigh. Fine! Let’s get this over with.

(Siri activates something and causes a mini-explosion on his left arm)

Siri: Oh, so that’s what that does.

David: You knew that but did it anyway didn’t you?

Siri: Maybe…

David: Alright so what did you find out?

Siri: Okay so here’s a list of things I can do so far:

I can hear and feel what you perceive

I help maintain all your systems from overwhelming you

I can reroute power to different parts of your body

I can analyze environments and scan for possible threats

David: And that’s everything you can do?

Siri: Everything that I know so far. Why did you want to know anyway?

David: The Metadross won’t stop attacking the colony. I know you don’t like violence but I don’t think we were given this chance by accident. I’m going to do everything I can to stop the Metadross.

Siri: Wow, that’s surprisingly mature of you.

David: So, you are with me on this?

Siri: It’s not like I have much of a choice.

David: Oh right. Haha.

The conversation the two had allowed them to clear their minds and put them at ease. David was ready to go reconvene with everyone but Siri interrupted him. She discovered some interesting data that she thought might be of interest to David and the rest of the group.
