New Recruits

The next day had arrived, the village was still standing despite a heavy attack from the Relevant. All the children came out from hiding as none of them got hurt thanks to the efforts of Gurshaan, Jovan, Duncan and Aumber. Duncan, Gurshaan and Jovan had their wounds patched up and they were ready to help rebuild the village’s defenses. Meanwhile, Aumber and Armaan were thinking about the best way to rescue Gunraj. Their plan was to assemble a small team for this specific mission but they knew they couldn’t leave the village defenseless. Duncan, Gurshaan and Jovan had to stay behind and continue to protect the village. Neha wanted to join Aumber and Armaan, but Aumber disagreed with the idea. They argued for a bit before Neha stormed off leaving Aumber and Armaan to plan out their next move.

Aumber’s plan was for them to head back into the city to gather up some recruits. She knew someone in the city she could rely on but her hope was that Armaan also had a few others in mind that could join them. “Umm, I don’t really know anyone. I didn’t have too many close friends to be honest.” Armaan told her. Despite his reluctance, Aumber encouraged him to think of anyone possible, acquaintances could even help. Finally, a couple of people came to his mind but he wondered how they were going to make it to the city and back before ‘The Relevant’ reached the meteorite. Aumber would ride her Absol while Armaan would ride Gunraj’s Arcanine in order to make it to the city and back.

And so, they got on their pokemon and made haste towards the city. Aumber was riding Absol with speed and grace while Armaan was having a rough time maintaining balance and holding on. Eventually he got the hang of it and within hours they saw the city walls within their sights. Armaan was excited to be back home for the time being but he also wondered how they were going to get into the city. The front gate was heavily guarded and they wouldn’t allow any intruders to enter.

As Armaan was strategizing ways to get around the surveillance at the entrance, Aumber already made her way to another side of the wall without drawing any attention from the guards. When Armaan finally noticed, he followed Aumber and she revealed a hidden underground pathway that led into the city. “So this is how you have been getting into the city and back to the village undetected!” He said in excitement as they entered through the secret passage.

Once they left the passage, Aumber told them to split up and for Armaan to find a couple of extra recruits. She signaled to him that they were to meet back within two hours. “Where are you going to go?” He asked. “There’s only one place where they would be people crazy enough for this mission.” She said as she hurried towards her destination leaving Armaan guessing but he realized he didn’t have time to waste.

Armaan was running around trying to find the people he was looking for. He checked the school, playgrounds, and many other areas where he thought they might be. Time was winding down, he had about forty-five minutes left before he had to meet up with Aumber. He didn’t want to have to face her empty handed. As he looked around he noticed a paper on the wall that was a wanted poster for the “Night Rider.” Moments after seeing it, a thought began to spring up in his mind and he rushed quickly to his next location.

He arrived at the library and looked for the graphic novel section where he found the two people he was looking for: Reevmrak and Aynat. “I finally found you both! I…” Armaan was speaking quite loud but Reevmrak cut him off by signaling him to quiet down. Seeing that Armaan had something important to say, they all left the library and began to discuss outside. Once they were outside, Aynat had her fists raised and lunged forward to strike Armaan. Armaan dodged her attack easily but at the same time his pokeball got knocked off and out of the pokeball came Greninja. Its presence frightened Aynat and Reevmrak who was on his guard as well. However, before the situation escalated, Armaan jumped in and called for a ceasefire.

Armaan: We are not here to fight.

Aynat: That’s a lie! You are here to seek revenge for us bullying you!

Armaan: What? No! This is way more important than that. We need your help!

Reevmrak: Hm?

Armaan: Long story but basically, we need your help to pull off a near impossible mission. I just thought you would be up for the challenge.

Reevmrak: We have bullied you and made your life miserable growing up. Why would you even consider asking for our help after all we have done to you?

Armaan: Listen, there is a lot more at stake here than just my feelings or how well we get along with one another. There are many people who are going to get hurt if I don’t do something. I was asked by Night Rider to find some extra help for our mission. You two are the only people I know at the moment but if you say no, I’m still going without you both.

After that exchange, Reevmrak and Aynat were completely stunned as they had never seen this side of Armaan before. As Armaan began to turn around after a long silence, Reevmrak began to speak, “I’m in.” Armaan stopped as he wasn’t sure if he had just imagined what he just heard. “I’m in, if you can get me an autograph from the Night Rider.” Reevmrak repeated himself. Armaan nodded in response to his request, meaning Reevmrak and Aynat had joined the team.

As Armaan rejoined with Aumber at the appointed time, their party now consisted of three new members: Reevmark, Aynat and Teenpaj. Upon arriving, Reevmrak burst out, “Hey! What is she doing here?” as he pointed towards Aumber. Armaan attempted to calm him down and whisper to him that Aumber was the Night Rider. “That is preposterous! There is no way this girl could be the Night Rider!” as he yelled he threw a right hook without any warning at Aumber. Not wasting anytime, Aumber grabbed his right arm, twisted it and locked it behind his back. Reevmrak was now stuck in a blind and as Aynat was about to sneak up from behind on Aumber she stuck out her palm in Aynat’s line of sight. “Make one move and you will have to find out how flexible your friend is.” Sensing that Aumber was serious, Aynat backed off and Reevmrak conceded so Aumber let him out of her hold.

After their little tussle was over, Aumber walked away toward the exit of the city. “Wow, she is so cool! I need to learn to be like her!” exclaimed Teenpaj as she scurried after her new leader. Aynat went to help Reevmrak up and Armaan asked to make sure they were both ok before continuing on. Once they got outside the city, Aumber signaled for Absol to appear and once it arrived she hopped on ready to leave.

“Wait Aumber, we only have your Absol and the Arcanine you borrowed from Gunraj. They aren’t going to be enough to carry all of us. How are we going to get back in time?” Armaan asked. This was when Teenpaj brought out three mysterious four legged creatures to them. They had saddles on their back and were ready to go. “What kind of pokemon are these?” Armaan asked. “Um, they aren’t pokemon, they are just horses…” Teenpaj told him. Reevmrak, Aynat and Teenpaj each got on their horse while Armaan hopped on Arcanine and they made their way swiftly to rescue Chieftain Gunraj.
