Encounter with the Night Rider

They arrived into a shady area of the city where they were expecting the Night Rider to be. Frogadier was covered with a hood and cloak while Armaan had an earpiece to stay in communication with Zaid, Chloe, and Da-wei.

Chloe: Testing, testing, Armaan can you hear us? Over!

Armaan: Hear you loud and clear.

Chloe: You didn't say over! So we can’t hear you! Over!

Da-Wei: Chloe stop, this ain’t the time to be messing around.

Zaid: Man! Why did Armaan get to go on the cool mission?

Chloe: Cause you lost in rock, paper, scissors!

Zaid: We didn’t even do that!

Da-Wei: Sigh… We picked Armaan for this mission over you and Wartortle because you two are slower than Armaan and Frogadier. Plus Wartortle would not fit the disguise.

Armaan: Whoa Zaid, when did your Squirtle evolve into Wartortle?

Zaid: In the examination battle against Chloe, we....

Chloe: Hey! No no no no! We made a deal never to talk about that again!

Armaan: Wait what happened?

Chloe: NOTHING! Mind your own business!

Da-Wei: Focus! Alright Armaan just remember this is a negotiate and recon mission. Find Night Rider and see if he will join us. Anything other than yes, you book it out with Frogadier.

Armaan: Got it!

Zaid: Don’t mess up!

Chloe: Don’t worry we got your back. We will be across the street from you.

Armaan: You guys are in Muskaan’s Pizza Parlour?

Zaid: No we are in the van!

Armaan: The bright red and yellow one that says ‘Arthur’s Hockey Academy?’

Chloe: You guys can thank me later for the awesome idea.

Da-Wei: Yeah… We totally blend in with our surroundings.

Armaan and Frogadier walked toward the entrance of the building that looked like an old antique store. They entered the shop that was filled with vintage items that he had only read about in books. At the counter was an elderly lady with a name tag that read Loretta. She greeted both of them and asked how she could be of assistance. Armaan responded, “We would like to enter the battlegrounds.” He was received with a raised eyebrow and a confused look, “I’m sorry, we don’t have that in stock here.” Armaan was beginning to sweat as he thought he was at the right location. Before he could utter another word he heard a voice from his ear piece: “Show her the card…’ said a facepalming Da-Wei. Immediately Armaan reached into his pocket for a black plastic card with a silver insignia in the middle that resembled a fist. Once Loretta saw the card, her tone and posture changed. “Well why didn't you say so earlier? Right this way!” And she guided them to a book shelf where she pressed a hidden button opening a secret door leading to an underground path.

They followed the stairs down the path that led straight to where he was expecting, the underground battle arena. Armaan felt completely overwhelmed and out of place. The area was loud and filled with some of the most savage looking people he had ever seen. There were people with the craziest hair styles and some interesting choice of accessories to make them look as intimidating as possible. In the middle was the battle arena where two fighters competed in hand to hand brawl against one another with almost no restriction or rules other than no outside interference.

As Armaan found a seat for himself, the fight had just concluded. Standing over her opponent in victory was the tenacious Teenpaj. She was six feet tall, all muscle and had one of the best records in the arena. Joining her in raising her arm was announcer Johar. As the crowd roared and cheered, announcer Johar spoke through the microphone: “Who here thinks they can take on the champion?!” As he was yelling the question, someone behind Armaan threw a beverage of ice at his back forcing him to jump out of his seat and yell, “Hey who did that?” It simultaneously drew the attention of the audience and Johar who announced, “Looks like we have a new challenger!”

Armaan couldn’t believe what was happening. He tried to get a hold of his team outside through the earpiece but the signal was too weak underground. Armaan turned to look at his opponent and all he could feel was his heart pounding from anxiety. Luckily, his companion in disguise stepped in front of him, communicating to everyone that he would take on Teenpaj.

Both Combatants entered the arena looking poised for a fight. Armaan was on the outside of the rink reminding Frogadier to go easy and keep the disguise on. Moments after the pep talk, the bell sounded signaling the start of the battle. Teenpaj was a wrestling type fighter so she immediately dashed towards her opponent attempting to grapple him down. Although Frogadier’s options were limited, he still had his incredible speed. Countless times Teenpaj would try to grab on but Forgadier would evade every single attempt. Teenpaj was getting impatient while the audience were booing at Armaan and Frogadier boring tactics.

Armaan encouraged Frogadier to stick to their strategy. Teenpaj came speeding in again but Frogadier dodged and pushed her carrying her momentum forward, causing her to fall flat on her belly. The audience was in shock but Teenpaj was enraged. Having been humiliated she lost all sense of reason and stormed full force at her opponent. Frogadier waited for the perfect timing before jumping out of the way and allowing Teenpaj to collide against a metal post at the edge of the arena.

The crowd was silenced and Teenpaj was feeling extremely dizzy from the collision and barely standing straight. She continued to wobble her way towards Frogadier, looking completely disoriented. Frogadier was in complete control of the match and as Teenpaj slowly raised her right arm for an attack, Frogadier already anticipated with confidence where it would land and began moving to the right. Unfortunately, Teenpaj was pretending to be more injured than everyone thought she was. Her arm suddenly changed speed and caught Frogadier off guard. Frogadier barely escaped the sudden change of speed but Teenpaj grabbed on to the cloak and ripped it off his opponent. The identity of Frogadier was now exposed to everyone in the arena.

The entire arena was thrown into chaos as everyone began panicking about the pokemon in the arena. Some became very hostile and pulled out their weapons, swords, baseball bats, clubs, and other various items. Armaan and Frogadier stood back to back preparing themselves from attacks from any angle.

Before anyone could initiate, a loud explosion occurred at the entrance. The door had just been blown off and merging out of the smoke was Captain Michelle shouting a loud warcry into the fray. She looked ready to take on the entire arena herself but following close behind her were Da-Wei, Chloe, Zaid and his Wartortle. They came storming in making their way to rescue Armaan and Frogadier.

Michelle smashed her way past all the goons that stood in her path. Chloe and Da-Wei tag team their way through each opponent. While Zaid commanded Wartortle to clear everyone out with a hydro pump attack. Things were going smoothly but there were still countless fighters left to take out. In the midst of all the confusion, someone grabbed Armaan, covered his mouth and kidnapped him away. Frogadier attempted to rescue Armaan but with so many brawlers in the way, he was unable to do so, leaving an easy escape for the kidnapper.

After being pulled away from the massive brawl, Armaan was brought up to the rooftops with no one else in sight. His captor threw him against a wall and as Armaan turned around he saw an unknown figure wearing a helmet with a visor and dressed all in black like a ninja. He also had a katana behind but not drawn out. As he was asking questions, Armaan was thinking that his captor looked strangely familiar. After some thought, his mind led him back to Reevmrak and the comic books. This person was without a doubt the Night Rider!

Night Rider: Don’t make me ask again. How did you get the pokemon?

Armaan: You are the Night Rider! We’ve been looking for you!

Night Rider: Do not change the sub…

Armaan: We need your help! My team members and I are looking to claim the meteorite out in the forest. With your skillset we can definitely…

Night Rider: How do you know about the meteorite?

Armaan: Oh, we were told by General Corrin about it. Don’t worry, he has a plan ready to deal with everything.

As Armaan continued talking, the Night Rider interrupted in a deep voice, “General Corrin? I guess that makes you one of his allies, and unfortunately my enemy!” The Night Rider drew his weapon out but before he could point it towards Armaan, Frogadier jumped in using a cut attack, projecting a sword shape weapon and clashing against the Night Rider’s katana. After pushing back and separating from one another, Armaan asked Forgadier to halt his attack but it ignored the command. Frogadier rushed in full speed to strike with another cut attack but the Night Rider blocked it with ease. Despite being denied, Frogadier continued to press the attack from every angle but the Night Rider deflected every move without breaking a sweat.

It was a sight to behold but also drew worry for Armaan. Even Da-Wei didn’t have this amount of speed when he battled Frogadier. Finally, the Night Rider decided he had enough and grabbed Frogadier with his left hand, throwing him to the ground. Immediately Armaan ran to his pokemon to see if he was ok. Frogadier was badly wounded physically but was still determined to press on. As it opened its eyes and saw the Night Rider completely unscathed, a rush of anger began to overtake it. Once again, a ray of light began to emit from the frog pokemon as it was evolving to its final form, Greninja!

Armaan was ecstatic as this was the moment he had been waiting for so long. He called Greninja to use his signature move, water shuriken, but the pokemon disobeyed. Instead, Greninja charged right at his target with a Night slash attack, projecting a dark sword. With it’s new speed the Night Rider was forced to move with more effort than against Greninja’s previous form. Greninja relentlessly attacked with everything he had keeping the pressure against his opponent but Greninja was beginning to tire out. After playing defense long enough, the Night Rider waited for the perfect moment and gut checked Greninja with his shoulder. He then grabbed the pokemon by the leg and slammed him to the ground and pointed the sword near his throat to prevent him from getting up.

Armaan could only look, powerless to do anything to improve the situation. Fortunately, a beam of light shone against the Night Rider forcing her to cover her visor and direct her attention towards the source. Da-Wei and Chloe had appeared and they spaced themselves apart to prevent their target from escaping. “Night Rider we have you outnumbered and surrounded! Give up and umm, you know, do that thing…?” Chloe spoke hesitantly as she tried to sound cool. It drew a facepalm from Da-Wei as he completed her sentence with the word ‘surrender.’ “Yeah! That’s the word! What he said!” Chloe said in excitement.

The Night Rider began to slowly put his katana away. Chloe and Da-Wei remained vigilant knowing how deceptive their foe could be. As the duo began to step toward the weaponless fighter, a dark pulse attack came from their blind side and struck the roof with great impact. Chloe and Da-Wei managed to avoid the attack and as they were about to pull themselves back up a shadowy mount appeared in the dark beside the Night Rider. He hopped on the creature and escaped without a trace. As everyone attempted to gather themselves after their encounter against the Night Rider, a noise appeared near the entrance to the rooftop. It was Zaid panting profusely as he walked up all the stairs to reach the top. “Did I miss anything?”
