Unchained

Jawad found the rock that the great wizard was trapped in and he already casted the spell to release him. A powerful force began to radiate from the stone, nothing that the fighters had ever felt before. Everyone was waiting for the anticipated arrival of the great wizard but for some reason Reina had a dreadful feeling, something wasn’t right. She turned around to look at the ice wizard who had a dark smirk on his face.

“Stop the summoning! Jawad stop the spell!” Reina yells frantically. Everyone was confused as to what Reina was talking about. Nadya and Jiyah asked if she was feeling alright but Reina insisted that they stop the prison from opening. She couldn’t explain it but she felt this was what Dragkonis wanted. She continued shouting out to Jawad and eventually she got his attention.

The Mangolor tried to make out the words that Reina was shouting as it was quite loud where he was standing. He somewhat heard that she was telling him to stop the spell but he couldn’t fathom why. He then looked at the book that he had been holding in his left hand and suddenly the picture within the book began to change.

The picture of the great wizard and the dragon battling against one another had altered with the positions of the two fighters switching. That was when Jawad realized their grave mistake, the one who was locked away was not the wizard. Jawad tried to stop the spell and close the prison but it was too late. The prison was broken and whoever was within it was now free.

There was a mysterious person standing still covered in smoke. Everyone awaited for what would happen next. The eyes of the person abruptly opened and that was when a dark aura began to emanate from him. Wings sprung out from the back of his shoulders, the nails of his finger and toes became claws, and a scaly tail grew from his back. Everyone ran for cover as the metamorphosis was taking place. The only person who stayed out in the open was Kabir.

The ice mage let out his hand and a dark light began to leave his body. It was the essence of Dragkonis, now returning back to his original body. As the spirit left, Kabir lost consciousness but luckily Leyyah caught him before his head could hit the ground and she pulled him to safety.

Once the essence made its way back into the original host, the transformation was complete. The kingdom’s worst nightmare had arrived, Dragkonis had returned in his full form. He spread his wings, standing about forty feet over his foes and letting out a vicious roar to let the world know of his return.

Everyone felt the intimidating presence of the beast and were too frightened to move. Jawad was still confused as to what had happened. He demanded that the dragon explain to him how he was trapped in prison and not the wizard like the book initially indicated.

Dragkonis was amused by Jawad’s temper and decided to share what happened.

“You humans are so predictable and cling on to false hope so easily. Let me tell you the actual tale of what happened that day. In the battle against the great wizard and his comrade, I used up more power than I thought and he took advantage of that by sealing me away in the prison. The prison he locked me away in was the rock prison that you all have been trying to find. Luckily, before he sealed me in that horrifying prison, I managed to leave behind a small part of my spirit to roam and find a temporary host. Once I found a human to reside in, I began to plot my return.

Having already destroyed most of the powerful inhabitants of the realm, I decided the next course of action was to finish the human race, by ridding the kingdom of their future hope. I let decades pass so I would have assembled a strong enough army and regained enough strength to invade the kingdom. My forces first stormed the kingdom of the east who were taken by surprise. In the process I captured Prince Yuz Lez and made him my new host.

With a new body, I grew even more powerful and knew it was time to eradicate one of the last hopes for humanity, the wizard academy. How pathetic they turned out to be as I obliterated that place and found myself an even stronger host, the ice mage.

However before leaving, I found the archives that had documented my battle against the great wizard. Within those records were instructions on how to free the wizard and even my old body. Unfortunately, only a true mage could break the prison, so I destroyed everything that was there and left one book for a poor soul to find. I casted a spell of deception over the book that would fool the reader to believe that the great wizard was the one trapped in the rock prison when it was actually me.

I then commanded my forces to invade the kingdom of the west. Everyone thought my aim was to find the princess of the west, and destroy the last hope of the realm. However, all this was to force a hopeful group of heroes to find the ‘great wizard’ and free him from his bind to save the world from Dragkonis. How you all fell into my trap so easily!”

The dragon had revealed his plan and he stood laughing at their despair. “You monster!” Jawad cried out. “Monster? How absurd, I’m much more than that. I am Dragkonis, Conqueror of Realms, Destroyer of Hope, and the Dragon of Deception.” He boasted. Jawad readied himself to battle the mighty dragon but before he made a move, Reina walked up towards the beast.

“Where is Amisha? Return her back!” Reina commanded. Jiyah and Nadya immediately jumped in front to protect her but Dragkonis lowered his head frighteningly close to the three girls. They could feel his breath and his eyes struck fear into their entire body, paralyzing them. “So this is the princess of the west that has eluded everyone for so long. Now that I have obtained my true form, I have no use for you.” He stomped the ground and a group of dread knights appeared, dropping off a cage with Amisha in it.

The cage opened and the dread knights disappeared with Amisha lying inside unconscious. In an instant, Reina began running towards the cage to see her friend. She was within a few meters of reaching Amisha, Dragkonis let out a raging stream of fire from his mouth directing it at the both of them. Jiyah and Nadya shouted as loud as they could to get Reina’s attention but it was too late, Reina and Amisha were both within the crossfire of the devastating attack.

The attack made a huge impact and left a giant cloud of smoke. As the smoke cleared, Reina was left unconscious along with Amisha with minor injuries. On the contrary, the person in front of them who had intercepted the behemoth’s attack was severely injured and bleeding, Leyyah was in critical condition. Her shield and sword dropped to the ground before she collapsed on the floor.

“Weak and pathetic!” Roared the dragon. He then spreads his wings and begins taking flight into the air. As he hovered over everyone, he let out a frightening roar. It caused lightning to strike and the ground to tremble, the entire wasteland was beginning to collapse. “You all are finished, no point wasting my time here. But if you manage to survive, you will find me at the Grasix Arena.” With those last words, he vanished into the skies.
